If participating in a show, students may have one excused absence from rehearsals, requiring prior approval or a doctor’s note.
Prior scheduling conflicts must be checked off on your registration form at the time of registration. These absences will be considered acceptable. Any other conflicts will not be approved once auditions are complete.
Failure to adhere to our attendance policy may result in dismissal from the show or loss of a named/lead role. No refunds will be issued if this occurs.
ATTITUDE & BEHAVIOR
We value a culture of kindness, collaboration, and respect.Support and uplift your peers in both words and actions.
Disruptive behaviors, such as talking over instructors or creating distractions, take away from the learning experience and will not be tolerated.
Celebrate the accomplishments of others and approach challenges with a growth mindset.
STUDIO & CLASSROOM CONDUCT
The classroom is a shared space for learning, growth, and creativity.Follow instructions, remain attentive, and respect your instructors and peers at all times.
Avoid disruptions, including unnecessary talking or distracting behavior, to maintain focus during class or rehearsal.
Phones and other devices must be tucked away and on silent during classes and rehearsals. They may only be used during breaks or in between classes.
The classroom should be a quiet zone during class or rehearsal. If you are not participating, please stay silent inside the classroom or wait outside until your class or rehearsal begins.
Come to class dressed appropriately and ready to learn.
Help keep our spaces clean and organized by eating only outside of the classroom and properly disposing of any trash.
Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported, regardless of skill level, background, or experience.
REHEARSAL EXPECTATIONS
For students participating in shows, preparation outside of scheduled rehearsals is essential to the success of the production.Students are responsible for learning their lines, music, and choreography as assigned and are expected to practice outside of rehearsals to ensure they are confident and performance-ready.
Rehearsals will not repeatedly cover choreography or material multiple times. Full participation and focus during rehearsals are critical to avoid falling behind.
If a student is absent, they are responsible for learning what they missed by reviewing notes, recordings, or seeking guidance from peers or instructors.
Students should arrive at rehearsals ready to perform what they have practiced, ensuring smooth and productive sessions.
PERFORMANCE ETIQUETTE
Professionalism and respect are essential during performances.Stay quiet backstage and respect the work of your peers and crew members.
Be punctual and fully prepared for all call times and cues.
Support all performers by showing enthusiasm and encouragement, both on and off stage.
COSTUME CARE
Costumes are a key part of productions and should be handled responsibly.Keep costumes clean, wrinkle-free, and stored properly in garment bags.
Treat costumes with care to ensure they are performance-ready at all times.
Delta Performing Arts Academy is not responsible for repairs or adjustments once costumes are distributed, so it’s important to take responsibility for their upkeep.
PARENT/GUARDIAN CONDUCT
Parents and guardians are essential to creating a positive environment.Be a role model of respect and encouragement for all students.
Avoid gossip, negativity, or airing grievances on social media. Instead, reach out to us directly to address concerns.
Celebrate the achievements of all students and help foster a supportive community within the academy.
ACCOUNTABILITY & CONFLICT RESOLUTION
We strive to maintain a productive and harmonious environment and address any conflicts or behavioral issues in a constructive manner.Behavioral concerns will first be addressed with the student directly and may include temporary removal from class.
Continued issues may result in a meeting with parents or guardians to discuss solutions.
Consequences for repeated or serious infractions may include removal from class, loss of a role in a production, or dismissal from the academy.
Students, parents, and staff are encouraged to approach conflicts respectfully and work collaboratively toward resolution.
-
At Delta Performing Arts Academy, we are committed to fair, inclusive, and professional casting in all of our productions. Our mission is to create an environment where performers of all experience levels can learn, grow, and shine on stage.
We know that auditions can be an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience. Every student who auditions demonstrates courage and dedication, and we commend them for putting themselves out there. While not every student will receive their first-choice role, every role in a production is valuable, and we encourage all performers to embrace their part in telling the story.
Our Commitment to Fair & Inclusive Casting
Casting decisions are made based on the audition, not personal relationships, seniority, or external factors. Every performer is evaluated based on their fit for the production and the needs of the show.We believe that:
Every student has an equal opportunity to be cast in any role.
Casting is never based on race, gender, body type, or other personal characteristics.
There is no limit to how many times a student can be cast in a lead role. Casting is determined show by show based on the best fit for each production.
Taking classes or private lessons with us does not guarantee being cast or receiving a lead role. However, continued training can greatly improve performance skills and increase confidence in auditions.
What We Consider When Casting
Casting is a complex process, and many factors are considered when making decisions. Each show has different needs, and every role requires a specific combination of skills. Some of the things we consider include:
Singing
Pitch, tone, and vocal quality
Musicality (rhythm, timing, projection)
Ability to harmonize (if required for the role)
Expression and storytelling through song
Acting
Character interpretation and expression
Stage presence and ability to command attention
Emotional connection to the material
Ability to take direction and make adjustments
Dancing/Movement
Coordination and ability to learn choreography
Energy and expression through movement
Spacial awareness and ability to work within an ensemble
Behavior & Work Ethic
Level of preparation for auditions
Focus and professionalism in the audition room
Ability to collaborate and work well with others
Willingness to put in effort outside of rehearsals
Past commitment, attitude, and reliability in previous productions (if applicable)
Show-Specific Considerations
The character’s vocal range, acting style, and stage presence
How the actor fits within the overall cast dynamics
Chemistry with other performers
Which role will challenge and help them grow
Casting is like a puzzle, and our job is to put the best pieces together to create the most successful show.
Respecting the Casting Process
We know that casting decisions can sometimes be disappointing. However, we ask all performers and families to approach the process with a positive attitude and respect for the production team’s decisions.Casting decisions are final. We will not discuss or reconsider casting choices.
Requests for role changes will not be accommodated.
We encourage students to embrace their role and see it as an opportunity to grow.
Every role is essential to the success of the production. Ensemble members play a major part in bringing the show to life!
If a student is interested in improving for future auditions, we are happy to provide constructive feedback upon request.
Audition & Participation Policies
All students must audition to be considered for a role in a production.Auditioning does not guarantee a specific role. Every student who auditions will be considered for the role that best fits them.
Students who sign up for a show are committing to being part of the cast. If a student chooses to leave after casting is announced, their spot cannot be refunded or transferred.
Students who accept a role are expected to:
Attend rehearsals and performances as scheduled
Learn their lines, blocking, and music outside of rehearsal
Follow all studio and rehearsal guidelines
Helping Your Child Handle Casting Outcomes
Theater teaches resilience, teamwork, and perseverance. We encourage parents to help their child see the bigger picture—that being part of a production is about more than just the size of a role. Every student plays a vital part in the success of the show!If your child is feeling disappointed, here are some ways to support them:
Acknowledge their feelings – It’s okay to be upset. Let them process their emotions.
Encourage a growth mindset – Help them see this as a learning experience and an opportunity to improve.
Highlight the positives – Every role is important! Many performers who started in ensemble roles went on to lead shows later.
Encourage continued training – Classes in voice, acting, and dance can help students strengthen their skills for future auditions. Reach out to us if you would like a personal recommendation on what type of training would be best for you.
We are incredibly grateful for every student who auditions and joins our productions. Thank you for trusting us to be part of your performer’s journey!
